About Us

UBIdata is an online knowledge repository focused on systematically collecting, processing and disseminating key information about basic income pilots, proposals and policy debates around the world.

Our Project

The global basic income debate is generating a vast and growing amount of information related to trials, experiments and pilot schemes. Much of this data remains inaccessible, rapidly becomes out-of-date, or is simply difficult to find.

UBIdata addresses these issues by producing reliable and updated information about the global basic income debate in an accessible and user-friendly format. Our main objective is to provide a key resource for policy-makers, researchers, journalists and civil society organisations and advocacy networks interested in understanding, debating and working towards introducing basic income.

Our Vision

UBIdata is organised around three core principles.

  • UBIdata is free: information about basic income trials should be publicly available to all interested individuals, groups or organisations without charge
  • UBIdata is accessible: information about basic income trials must be made available to a wide range of users, accommodating the needs of first-time users as well as experts
  • UBIdata is reliable: information about basic income trials must be objective, up-to-date and as complete as possible so that users can themselves decide how to interpret the data

UBIdata's architecture, features and database are designed and implemented in accordance with these core principles.

Our Story (so far)

UBIdata was conceived in 2023 inside BIEN's Executive Committee and developed as a key BIEN project. We launched UBIdata in beta version with a dozen experiments and a basic user interface at the 2024 BIEN Congress in Bath. The beta version established UBIdata as a viable proof of concept and allowed us to seek user feedback and more funding.

In August 2025 we launched a revamped and updated UBIdata as a fully functional instrument at the BIEN Congress in NiterĂ³i, Brazil. The current interface features different pathways to explore the data, accommodating both first-time and more advanced users.

UBIdata has already expanded its list of experiments to around 30 trials but our database is continuously growing. We keep adding more data every month and hope to have a completed data set featuring all completed experiments around the world in 2026. You can contact us to share any information you like included at contact@ubidata.io.
